This old saying holds true:
“How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.”
So you've just hired a Virtual Assistant, but you feel uncertain how to go about delegating your work load. You're not entirely sure how she could manage, when you in particular couldn't keep things together. RELAX.
You hired a Virtual Assistant because you need to get things done PRONTO! Most VAs are very hardworking, experienced and willing to go through the ropes with you especially on their first day on the job.
To get started, it would be to your convenience to prepare a To-Do list for your VA containing everything you want to get accomplished for the day and one for the rest of the week. At the end of the Virtual Assistant's work shift, you can have her send a checklist of what tasks she was able to do from your To-Do list. If she missed out on anything urgent, you can have those tasks prioritized and finished the next work day. Initially, you have to keep your VA abreast on how you want your things done and files sorted. Its the training phase, you can't leave your employee blindly sifting through piles of work without any detailed set of instructions. No matter how experience your VA might be, not instructing her properly on what tasks are important to you will only result in counter productivity. Your work load for the moment maybe seem as high as a mountain, but breaking it down into manageable chunks will benefit the both of you.
